Gorgosaurus is in the superfamily Tyrannosauridae, though more closely related to Albertosaurus. Dinosaurs in this superfamily had continuing advancement in binocular vision, unlike how they are depicted in Jurassic Park, for example. Though this animal was smaller then Tyrannosaurus rex, and lived during the Late Cretaceous in western North America (fossils have been found farther north in Alberta). Some believe Gorgosaurus may actually be a species of Albertosaurus, though there are slight differences in the comparisons of skulls and teeth (it is still up to debate between palaeontologists). I will be doing a more detailed profile on Gorgosaurus for my Theropod of the Day series, but right now here’s a little preview of this guy (as I don’t have time to write up much more at the moment).
